October is here and conference races all around the nation are beginning to take shape in college football. The air is a bit cooler and preseason accolades are meaning less and less each week. Before the year began many people had ideas as to which players and teams would be the best in 2014.

But games aren’t played on paper and players have to prove themselves out on the field. Running back is one of the most marquee positions in college football, if not the most. In recent years the attention quarterbacks receive has seemingly skyrocketed, but college ball is still a run-first game — at least for most teams. Many running backs have laid down solid foundations to potentially huge seasons. We want to acknowledge these players that are currently the top in the country at their position.

Many sports outlets give preference to the big-time programs and popular names when putting together lists such as these. The list presented to you here is simply comprised of the 25 running backs that have put together the best seasons so far — not necessarily the biggest names. Preseason hype and the prestige of programs have been disregarded. The players that have performed the best on the field against the opponents that were on their schedule are listed here. These 25 running backs are preforming better than anyone at the moment, as far as statistical dominance goes.
