Ole Miss had a lot of recruits on hand for Alabama upset

Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze has become one of the country’s best recruiters, and it certainly helped his case that, as Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman reports, 400 recruits were on an unofficial visit to watch his Rebels take down top-ranked Alabama in a thrilling SEC showdown.

Oh, and they probably saw Katy Perry chug a beer and dive off of a bar.

“Does this happen all the time?” the recruits say. “Yes. Yes it does,” says the tour guide.

Ole Miss had the No. 19 ranked recruiting class going into this season, and the No. 7 ranked class in 2013.

That 2013 class was Freeze’s first recruiting class with the Rebels, and one that put the program on the map after landing defensive end and top-ranked prospect Robert Nkemdiche, wide receiver Laquan Treadwell and offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil. All five-star recruits, not to mention nine four-stars and 15 three-star prospects.

For a team that hasn’t won the SEC West since 2003 and whose last conference championship was in 1963, you have to give major props to a program that has been able to recruit so well and then turn that into wins on the field.

Ole Miss, which entered the game ranked No. 11 in both the Associated Press and Coaches Poll, is now 5-0 and will see a bump in the rankings.

They play Texas A&M, coming off a 48-31 loss to Mississippi State, next week at Kyle Field.
