Philadelphia 76ers don’t want lottery reform
There has been a lot of chatter about lottery reform in the NBA but the Philadelphia 76ers like things the way they are
There has been a lot of talk about the NBA lottery and how it can be reformed. In fact, the NBA recently submitted an official proposal to reform the lottery. It would discourage tanking by giving the four worst teams an 11% chance to get the top pick with the odds declining from there. Teams at the bottom would also have a better shot at winning.

Philadelphia 76ers’ owner Josh Harris is not in favor of this change.
“It’s a change that flattens the lottery system,” Harris said via Tom Moore of Calkins Media. “It would be a little bit worse for Philadelphia in the short run but long run, since we expect to be a consistent playoff or deep-caliber-playoff team, it’s actually better for us.
“We’re certainly in that dialogue. There’s 30 people and a league that have a lot of thoughts, so we’re trying to build a consensus. My sense is whatever change gets made, it will be an incremental change — it won’t change our strategy one way or the other. I generally feel like, when I watch the league in action in these situations, they do a very good job.”
The rest of the 76ers agree.
“We are cognizant of being a good member of the league, but at the same time balancing that with what’s the right thing for Philly and the Philadelphia 76ers,” GM Sam Hinkie said. “We’re trying to draw that line the best we can.”
Whether or not this is the official change they make is up in the air but the lottery will almost certainly be using a new system in the very near future.
