While the end result ultimately was what expected, Florida State got off to a slow start. In fact, the Seminoles trailed 3-0 after the first quarter and were only tied 3-3 with less than two minutes remaining in the first half.

However, a Jameis Winston 2-yard rush with 1:13 left and Roberto Aguayo’s second field goal of the day just before time expired sent Florida State to the break up 13-3.

The Seminoles really started to pour it on in the third quarter, though. A Mario Pender 3-yard touchdown rush and a 31-yard fumble return by Reggie Northrup gave Florida State a 30-3 lead entering the fourth.

Two more Aguayo field goals and a 59-yard touchdown pass from Winston to Travis Rudolph rounded out the scoring.

Winston finished the day 23-39 for 297 yards with a touchdown and interception. Pender was Florida State’s leading rusher with 70 yards and Ermon Lane was the team’s top pass-catcher, hauling in two passes for 70 yards.

On the other side, Wake Forest quarterback John Wolford finished with a miserable 58 yards and an interception on 9-15 passing. Dezmond Wortham rushed for 68 yards and E.J. Scott added 28 receiving yards.

Florida State takes on Syracuse next Saturday on the road. Wake Forest’s next game is also against Syracuse, on Oct. 18 at home.
