The Denver Broncos proved why they were one of the top teams in the NFL Sunday when they ran away from the undefeated Arizona Cardinals in the fourth quarter, winning the game by a score of 41-20. The Broncos were led by Peyton Manning who threw for 479 yards and four touchdowns to propel the Broncos over Patrick Peterson and a tough Cardinals defense.

The now 3-1 Broncos were looking to bounce off of a tough loss against the Seattle Seahawks in week three, when they lost in overtime 26-20 to the former Super Bowl champion that defeated the Broncos in February at MetLife Stadium.

After the first half, Denver led the Cardinals 21-13, but the Cardinals stayed in it, being down just four points going into the fourth quarter, but the Mile High faithfuls and the Broncos took over from there, scoring 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to take over the game and get the much needed win.

Many of the Cardinals problems in the second half stem from their problems at quarterback. Carson Palmer suffered a shoulder injury in week two and has not returned since. Drew Stanton has been replacing Palmer since, but in the third quarter of Sunday’s game, Stanton exited the game with concussion-like symptoms.

Replacing Stanton was Virginia Tech rookie Logan Thomas. Thomas came into the game and threw an 81-yard touchdown pass to Andre Ellington, but that was the only magic the rookie could produce as he finished 1-for-8 and failed to score again.

Impressive for the Cardinals was running back Andre Ellington. He finished with just 32 rushing yards and 1 rush TD, but also had 112 yards receiving for the Cardinals and a receiving TD.

The Broncos were very impressive on both sides of the ball. They finished with 568 total yards compared to Arizona’s just 215 total yards. Manning led the team while Demaryius Thomas was unbelievable at the receiver position catching eight balls for 226 yards and two touchdowns. Leading the Broncos on defense was linebacker Danny Trevathan who returned to the Broncos for the first time this season after suffering a broken tibia in the preseason. He was the leading tackler for the Broncos in 2013 and picked up where he left off leading the team with seven tackles.

Arizona will take their 3-1 record back home to play the Washington Redskins in week 6. Hopefully the Cards will have some consistency at the quarterback position and Palmer is able to return.

The 3-1 Broncos will move on to New York to take on the Jets next Sunday and continue their hopes of redeeming themselves in the postseason this year.
