After yet another crushing loss, the LSU Tigers are unranked for the first time in a while
Lost in in a week in which four of the top six teams lost was the fact that the LSU Tigers got thrashed by the Auburn Tigers. The 34 point loss in Auburn left LSU unranked for the first time since week 13 of the 2008 season. They didn’t make their way back into the top 25 until the preseason poll of the 2009 season.

Now they are on the outside looking in again for the first time in over five years. An early loss to Mississippi State and the big loss to Auburn have LSU in the “others receiving votes” category. LSU still received 35 points, which puts them at number 30, behind other two loss teams Stanford(25) and USC(28).
The young Tigers team need to do some growing up quickly to avoid their worst season since 2008 when they lost five games. With three ranked teams still left on their schedule (Mississippi, Alabama, and at Texas A&M) and road trips to Arkansas and Florida, it certainly looks possible.
These are the teams that Les Miles seems to get the most out of though. He likes to teach the younger teams and watch them grow. You know that 2008 team that lost five games? They were in the title hunt in 2010, and made the National Championship game in 2011.
Tiger fans hope that the same things are in store for this young batch of players. In the rough-and-tumble SEC West, who knows what will happen? LSU could run the table and still wind up with a playoff invite. There is speculation that a two-loss SEC West team would still get in over a one loss Big Ten or Big 12 team.
