NBA: Redrafting the 2009 NBA Draft
By John Bauman

Steph Curry. 2. player. 211.
With the second overall pick in the actual 2009 NBA Draft, Memphis selected Hasheem Thabeet with the second overall pick. Hailing from UConn, Thabeet was a big body at 7’3” who was expected to anchor Memphis’s frontcourt for years to come. Instead, he only lasted a year and a half, as he averaged 3.1 points and 3.6 boards his first season and was traded for Shane Battier in February 2011.

In the redraft, the Grizz select Stephen Curry. Can you imagine Steph and Mike Conley on the Grizzlies with Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph in 2009 and beyond? That would have been an excellent addition to an already solid team in the Western Conference from 2009 to 2014. Curry could have stretched the floor for Z-Bo and Gasol while playing off the ball or as a secondary ball-handler with Conley.

Stephen Curry averaged 17.5 points his rookie season and has been a 44% three point shooter over his five year career in the NBA. By selecting Curry, the Grizzlies would have set themselves up well for future success by adding a lights out three point shooter to an already strong basketball team from 2009 until now.
. Guard.
