San Francisco 49ers (-5) over Kansas City Chiefs

This is a classic situation in which the public is overvaluing one side.

Kansas City looked fantastic in utterly dismantling Tom Brady and the New England Patriots last week, and as a result, this line is more than a field goal lower than it should be. The Chiefs can be construed as a “solid” team behind Alex Smith and his unwillingness to turn the ball over, but outside of the combination of Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis on the ground, the Chiefs lack playmakers, and they will need them against a stingy 49ers defense.

San Francisco’s offense struggled mightily last week despite a favorable result, but the defense is hitting their stride at just the right time, and it will be much easier to curtail this offense than that of the Philadelphia Eagles. Colin Kaepernick will need to be “okay” in order to cover a 5-point spread, but he is more than capable of that, and look for Frank Gore and Carlos Hyde to catch another heavy workload in rout to a rather lopsided win.

Everyone is on the Chiefs. Go the other way.
