The New York Jets are the first NFL team to be shut out during the 2014 season. It was a 31-0 drubbing that dropped the struggling Jets to 1-4.

The Jets even made the decision at halftime to bench quarterback Geno Smith in favor of Michael Vick.
After the game head coach Rex Ryan took the initiative to apologize to the fans in a rather humorous way.
“First off, I apologize to our fans — those that are left,” Ryan said, via the Associated Press.
Ryan also took the blame for the loss refusing to single out any player or unit.
“This is on one person and that’s it,” Ryan said. “It’s certainly not on a quarterback and one individual that way. It’s on me. Clearly got outcoached. I thought we had a good plan going in and obviously that wasn’t the case.”
It would’ve been easy for Ryan to point to the defense, penalties or poor quarterback play. Smith completed 4-of-12 passes for 27 yards and an interception before being pulled in favor of Michael Vick.
Vick got off to a rough start as well but recovered to complete 8-of-19 passes for 47 yards.
While Ryan wouldn’t put the loss on the shoulders of his second-year quarterback, Smith accepted the responsibility saying it was “a pathetic show on my part. I didn’t help at any point during the game, so I’m going to look myself in the mirror.”
