It’s never officially NFL Sunday without conflicting reports.

Earlier today, NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport reported the Washington Redskins planned for star quarterback Robert Griffin III to return in Week 10 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Hours later, the Washington Post refutes this report, stating it’s unlikely that Griffin, who is still recovering from an ankle injury, returns to face the Cowboys.

From the Washington Post:

"However, people within the organization described such a timeline as inaccurate. Coaches want to see him make it through two full weeks of practice before they determine whether or not he is ready to return to game action. And, just because Griffin received clearance to practice fully, there is no guarantee that he would reclaim his starting job right away, a person with knowledge of the situation said."

Depending on how the Redskins’ season fares from now until Week 10, it may not matter what either report states.

We saw in the past how rushing Griffin back from injury has shafted his ability to remain healthy now. If the Redskins aren’t in position to compete in the NFC, let alone the NFC East, it’d be shocking to see Jay Gruden throw out his tender quarterback in meaningless exhibition games.

At least, that’s what would happen if Gruden paid any attention to the Mike Shanahan-RG3 saga that dominated sports news.

But in the rare instance that the ‘Skins are able to compete for the division crown (the Redskins are currently 1-3), the decision for Gruden becomes a lot harder, especially with Kirk Cousins playing like the backup quarterback that he is.
