Jed York, owner of the San Francisco 49ers, declared on Twitter Sunday that Jim Harbaugh is his coach.

San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York did a little damage control on Sunday, taking to social media to address reports that coach Jim Harbaugh won’t be back with the team next year.

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports said Sunday that Harbaugh wouldn’t be back with San Francisco next season and Seth Wickersham of ESPN The Magazine did a profile that demonstrates how intense Harbaugh is and how it can be difficult to co-exist with him. Randy Moss, who played for Harbaugh with the 49ers in 2012, weighed in on Sunday that the coach treated the players “like college kids,” as reported by Peter Schrager of FoxSports.com:

The controversy has been swirling around Harbaugh, fanned most recently when Deion Sanders of NFL Network said there were players in his locker room that wanted the coach out.

The 49ers are off to a 2-2 start this season, but in his first three seasons in San Francisco, the 49ers have played in the NFC Championship each year and advanced to the Super Bowl in 2012 (where he coached against his brother John Harbaugh of the Baltimore Ravens, in case you hadn’t heard that story before).

His career record in San Francisco is 38-13-1. That came after he was 29-21 in four seasons at Stanford, going 12-1 with an Orange Bowl win in 2010 before leaving for the 49ers.

Prior to Harbaugh’s arrival in 2011, the 49ers hadn’t made the playoffs or had a winning record since 2002.

Harbaugh is a former NFL quarterback who played 14 seasons with the Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, Baltimore Ravens and San Diego Chargers from 1987-2000.

The bottom line? It depends. If a player wants to win, Harbaugh is probably your guy. If you want milk and cookies and a participation trophy, he might not be.
