Golden State Warriors point guard Shaun Livingston will likely miss the preseason after having surgery on his toe. New Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has yet to define many roles on the team, but said Leandro Barbosa can help out at point guard in Livingston’s absence.

Livingston initially sprained his toe during the NBA Playoffs while he was with the Brooklyn Nets, and then he signed a three-year, $16 million-dollar contract with Golden State during free agency this summer. He’s planning to be ready to play for the Warriors by the start of the regular season:

Kerr said he imagined play sets on the court with both Barbosa and forward Andre Iguodala sharing responsibilities of the point guard, often with Iguodala as a “point forward.”
Livingston has been plagued by injuries throughtout his NBA career, but showed some of what he’s capable of when healthy with the Nets last season. He appeared in a career-high 76 games, and averaged 8.2 points with 3.2 assists and rebounds per game. The 29-year old Livingston started in 54 of Brooklyn’s games last year, and the team hasn’t ruled out him coming back before opening night.
