Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Tom Johnson was arrested for trespassing and disorderly conduct early Sunday morning. He was released on bail.

There is no word yet on exactly why the 30 year old Johnson was arrested, but the team has said that they are investigating the incident, and will respond when appropriate.

Johnson was signed as a free agent by the Vikings in the offseason after three years with the New Orleans Saints. The Vikings are putting him to good use so far. He has played in all five games, and even started one. He has recorded two sacks, a forced fumble, and six sacks on the season.

Trespassing and disorderly conduct are both misdemeanors, which is probably welcome considering all of the felonies going on. But this did happen to occur the day after Dolphins defensive end Derrick Shelby was arrested in Miami on the same charges.

Johnson was an undrafted free agent out of Southern Mississippi before ending up with the Saints. He recorded five sacks in three years with the Saints.

There is no word yet on whether Johnson will play next week when the Vikings host the Detroit Lions. Johnson was moving his way up in the pecking order on the defensive line rotation with his strong play. His arrest could have an adverse effect on his playing time going forward.

Sharrif Floyd and Shamar Stephen will likely see an uptick in playing time if Johnson is suspended or spends time in jail.
