Arian Foster is not a fan of the NFL having Thursday night games and thinks it puts players in danger all the while generating money for the league.

“They emphasize concussions when they start getting hit with lawsuits and they care about the players’ safety but Thursday Night Football is putting every player on the football field in danger,” Foster said, via the Houston Chronicle.

The five Thursday Night Football games have resulted in five blowouts and very little compelling football for the viewers, but it is still the NFL and the people are still watching the product.

It would be hard to disagree with Foster, however, because like with most business decisions, money is at the root of the decision as it is with Thursday Night Football which is broadcast on CBS for the first time in addition to the NFL Network.

The product suffers on Thursday as the players have little time to recover from the previous week’s game and coaches don’t have the same length of time to devise game plans and prepare for the upcoming opponent which comes three days earlier than normal.

Just imagine if your boss expected you do to anything three days before the normal deadline. Do you think the product would be diminished in any way?

The lopsided scores could be cyclical and it is not like we don’t see blowouts on Sundays, but if the injuries become so routine for Thursday night games, is it possible we see the phasing out of Thursday night football?

Probably not, because as Foster points out, it’s all about the money and it’s hard to envision a scenario where the NFL walks away from fistful’s of cash.

We should hear more from Foster on this topic when the Texans host Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts on their Thursday night game on Oct. 9.
