Carolina Panthers credit no-huddle for surge vs Chicago Bears
By Cory Buck
The Carolina Panthers are crediting their no huddle offense in their 31-24 victory over the Chicago Bears.
The Carolina Panthers trailed early against the Chicago Bears after having struggled for most of the first half to produce meaningful offense. The team turned to the no-huddle late in the second quarter though, and everything changed with a late touchdown. From there, the team took over slowly and held off the Chicago Bears for a big home win.

“Man, that was one of our best drives of the season,” tight end Greg Olsen said per ESPN. “Went down … bang, bang. Cam was in an awesome groove there. From that point on he was on fire. That kind of sparked us going into halftime.”
Note that the Carolina Panthers’ no-huddle offense isn’t a speed-up approach a la Chip Kelly and the Eagles. Rather, it’s more like a Peyton Manning offense where the team won’t huddle to prevent the defense from substituting, but Cam Newton used most of the game clock most of the time. This allowed the Carolina Panthers to exploit a lack of depth in the Bears front and keep the offense at an advantage.
“We’ve been in these particular situations before, either with the lead or without it,” Newton said. “And guys responded, and that’s what you want to see.”
