Turnovers haunted the Chicago Bears again in their 31-24 loss to the Carolina Panthers

The Chicago Bears sit at 2-3 after five weeks and they are left to wonder what could ahve been. Had the offense been able to protect the ball in the fourth quarter, the Chicago Bears might be 4-1 to this point. Instead, they have to dig out of a hole wondering what went wrong along the way. If you ask Jay Cutler, the answer is simple.

‘‘Turnovers are hurting us,’’ Cutler said per the Chicago Sun-Times. ‘‘Turnovers in critical times. It’s always the second-half ones that are hurting us.’’

Cutler threw two interceptions and lost a fumble, producing three of the team’s four turnovers. Even worse about those gaffes? Two of them came in the fourth quarter, which began with the Chicago Bears in the league.

The Chicago Bears had three chances to seal the game against the Panthers in the last seven minutes of regulation. Each of their last three drives produced a turnover. Cutler threw a pick and Matt Forte lost a fumble, then on the final drive with the Bears still holding a chance to win, Cutler was crushed by a Panthers; sack and lost a fumble to seal the game.

The Chicago Bears will have to shake off their struggles in quick fashion as they travel to Atlanta in Week 6 and face the high-flying Falcons who will make Cutler and company pay for any turnovers they commit.
