Despite several negative rumors, Pistons’ forward Josh Smith wishes teammate Greg Monroe nothing but the best.

As then restricted free agent Greg Monroe remained unsigned, rumors cropped up that he was unhappy and that he wanted forward Josh Smith out of Detroit.

Josh Smith proved to be a poor fit with Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond so the report seemed believable. Greg Monroe has since told reporters it was “all lies,” but Josh Smith was still affected by the talk.

“You can’t really concern yourself with it,” Smith said via Vincent Goodwill, Jr. of The Detroit News. “But that was my first time dealing with it. Even in Atlanta, nothing like that ever came up in free agency from anybody’s camp.”

It looks like Josh Smith has since put it behind him and wishes the best for Greg Monroe.

“We’ll just continue to work and be in a positive, energetic environment,” Smith said. “And I wish nothing but the best for Greg. I hope he gets what he’s looking for. If we succeed as a team, I don’t see where he wouldn’t get his money.”

Smith went 16.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 41.9% from the field, 26.4% from three and 53.2% from the charity stripe last season. Monroe put up 15.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 49.7% from the field and 65.7% from the free throw line last season.
