Ilya Bryzgalov released from professional tryout contract
I’m sobbing, mostly because I can’t bear to get rid of this:
According to CBS Sports, Ilya Bryzgalov was one of the plethora of players cut in the final days before the regular season begins. He was released from his professional tryout contract on Monday, October 6th.

Bryzgalov, who was selected in the second round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, has become almost an NHL staple. He spent time with the Philadelphia Flyers, Phoenix Coyotes, Anaheim Ducks (both as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and the Anaheim Ducks), and the Edmonton Oilers before heading to the Minnesota Wild during this past season. He posts a career SV% of .913 during his thirteen years with the league, although he hasn’t seen significant starting time since the 2010-2011 season.
While having Bryzgalov in net served the Wild well during the playoffs, as Darcy Kuemper had to leave post-season play with an injury, it was unlikely that the team would see any real utility in retaining him in their payroll. In addition to Kuemper, the team has Niklas Backstrom serving in a clear number one goaltender role, and Josh Harding is on the team’s payroll until his contract expires this upcoming summer.
If any GM is listening to me out there, please hire Ilya Bryzgalov as your director of player development. Please.
