Michigan running back Derrick Green out for season
Michigan Wolverines’ running back Derrick Green is out for the season.
As if things can’t get any worse for the 2-4 Michigan Wolverines this year, running back Derrick Green will miss the remainder of the season with a broken clavicle. Derrick Green is the team’s leading rusher.

Derrick Green started all six games for the Wolverines. While he also split carries with running back De’Veon Smith, he was the go-to back for the Wolverines. The sophomore and former five-star prospect had 471 yards and three touchdowns on 82 carries prior to his injury.
Sophomore back De’Veon Smith and redshirt junior Justice Hayes will replace Green. Smith and Hayes have combined for 66 carries and 383 yards so far this season. Smith scored his team-leading fourth rushing touchdown in the loss to Rutgers.
Derrick Green came into the 2013 season for the Wolverines as a freshman, ranked eighth in the nation in the Rivals 100 and was the top running back. He came into training camp 25 pounds overweight and didn’t see much of the field. He worked in the offseason to lose weight and become the skill player Michigan needed. That’s the reason for his quality performance in 2014. However, he won’t be able to showcase any more of his talent until next season.
Michigan is struggling. They’ve lost three straight games to Utah, Minnesota and Rutgers and fell to Notre Dame 35-0 in week two. They’re looking for answers and continue to come up empty. It’s no doubt that Michigan head coach Brady Hoke is out after this season if not earlier. He’s continued to get worse in his time at U of M as the team suffered three losses in September for the first time in school history last month.
There’s still half a season to go, but fans are already looking forward to next season. They are a hopeful they will have a new coach and better play at the quarterback position.
