Oakland Raiders interim head coach Tony Sparano knows his team is in a hole, so he’s literally having them dig their way out of it.

After the fourth straight loss the season, the Oakland Raiders fired head coach Dennis Allen and replaced him by making former Miami Dolphins head coach and assistant head coach/offensive line coach Tony Sparano the interim head coach of the team.

On Monday, Sparano started off his reign as the head coach of the Raiders in dramatic fashion, starting practice with a symbolized message. Sparano dug a hole in the ground next to Oakland’s practice field and took a football and put it in the hole, telling his team that the ball and the hole represent the first four games of Oakland’s season, they’re burying it and moving on. You can watch the video on Raiders.com here.

What Sparano should’ve done, is literally gather every single football the team has played with in the last 11 years and bury all of those footballs too, if he wants a real shot at a winning season. The Raiders will try to find their first win Sunday when they host the San Diego Chargers.

Sparano was the head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 2008-2011 where he posted a 29-32 head coaching record. We’ll see if he can help an 0-4 struggling Raiders team that will get a much needed bye week next Sunday before hosting the San Diego Chargers Oct. 12.
