The Ole Miss Rebels beat the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday for the first time since Eli Manning was the quarterback for the Rebels a decade ago, but there was one ugly moment that the program was not celebrating after the game.

Ole Miss defensive back Trae Elston has been suspended for the first half against the Texas A&M Aggies after he kicked Alabama running back Kenyan Drake after he fractured his leg during the game and will be lost for the remainder of the season.

The decision was upheld by the SEC, according to the Clarion-Ledger’s Hugh Kellenberger.

It is hard to know the intent of Elston here and whether he knew Drake was injured when he delivered the kick, but the fact is that he did do it. It’s on the film. The viewers watching on CBS saw the kick and it’s not a good look for Elston who is justifiably suspended.

Now, the debate is whether Elston should be suspended for the entire game or longer, I’m willing to bet some Crimson Tide fans would think the suspension isn’t long enough, but the Rebels will be without a defensive back for the first 30 minutes against Kenny Hill and one of the more prolific passing offenses in the nation.

The win was a monumental win for the program and moved them in to the top 25, but it did come with a little bit of a black eye in a moment that I’d hope Elston regrets.
