The Baltimore Ravens were driving late in their game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, down 20-13. On fourth down, Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco threw a perfect pass to wide receiver Torrey Smith, but the ball bounced off his hands ending the drive and returning possession to the Colts.
It was Smith’s second drop of the game
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said the ball was catchable.
“It was catchable,” Harbaugh said, via the Baltimore Sun. “It was a tough catch, it was a challenging play to make, very challenging play to make. Those are not plays you see made every play in the NFL.”
That is true, but across the country Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant made an impressive catch to keep a drive alive in overtime to win the game.
Smith finished the game with three catches for 38 yards on eight targets. That is five footballs that came his way that didn’t materialize into anything one way or the other. It isn’t an isolated game of poor performance, Smith has 11 catches on 30 targets for the season, for 176 yards.
