No. 11 Ole Miss defeated No. 3 Alabama Saturday at home 23-17 after some fourth quarter heroics fueled the Rebels’ 13 unanswered points and they were able to upend the King of the SEC. Ole Miss fans began storming the field after the victory, tearing down the goalposts and even carrying the goalposts out of the stadium. Ole Miss was fined $50,000 due to the actions of the fans because they are repeat offenders from similar fan storming in 2012 and 2013.

Unranked Kentucky took on South Carolina, who was ranked 13 in week five before a 21-20 loss to Missouri, was dropped from the rankings but Kentucky still stormed the field upon their 45-38 win over the Gamecocks. Kentucky is now 2-1 in the SEC conference and 4-1 in overall play. Their single loss comes from a three overtime loss to Florida in week three. The school was fined $25,000 for the fan rushing because Kentucky has not had fans storm the field since 2007. The SEC regulations say that if you are a repeat offender within three years, the fine goes up as it did for Ole Miss.

“Saturday’s games were filled with excitement and celebration for a number of schools across the SEC last weekend, but significant risk of injury for student-athletes and fans alike can result from incidents such as these,” SEC commissioner Mike Slive said in a statement. “Health and safety will always be a top priority at SEC athletic events.”

Next week, the No. 3 ranked Ole Miss Rebels will travel to College Station, Texas to take on the Texas A&M Aggies inanother tough conference game. Ole Miss hasn’t won the SEC conference since 1963, and this year at 5-0 so far, looks to have a real shot.
