The Arizona Cardinals are hopeful to have either injured starter Carson Palmer or backup Drew Stanton available to play quarterback this week.

The Arizona Cardinals finished Sunday’s loss at Denver with rookie Logan Thomas at quarterback, as starter Carson Palmer missed his second straight game because of an injured shoulder and backup Drew Stanton was knocked out of the game with a concussion.

Coach Bruce Arians

told

the Arizona Republic there’s a chance either Palmer or Stanton could be available for this week’s game against the Washington Redskins.

But Palmer has to get through a whole practice and Stanton has to clear the NFL’s concussion protocol.

"“We feel like one of those two will be back,” Arians said. “If not, then obviously we have to move on to door No. 2 and get somebody in to back up Logan.”"

Thomas struggled in his first regular-season action, completing 1-of-8, with the lone completion being an 81-yard touchdown to running back Andre Ellington.

"“It’s big-boy ball, there’s no doubt about it,” Thomas said. “It’s just a little bit faster. It’s getting used to it.“I’ve got to go all in like I’m taking every rep, that it’s going to be my game on Sunday.”"

If Arizona has to add a quarterback, a leading contender would be Ryan Lindley, who was among the final cuts in training camp and spent last year on the Cardinals’ roster.

Lindley is on the San Diego Chargers’ practice squad, but he knows Arians’ offense, making his re-integration into the Cardinals’ offense a quicker process.

In three starts, Stanton has completed 48.9 percent of his passes for 529 yards and two touchdowns and has not thrown an interception. Palmer completed 64.9 percent of his passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns, with no picks, in the opener.
