According to

NBC’s Pro Hockey Talk

, Sam Bennett could be in for a long-haul struggle. The fourth overall pick from the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, whether he receives surgery on his hand or not, is going to be out for an indefinite period of time. Looks like this top-ranked rookie is going to be missing out on the World Junior Championships this year, and he’ll definitely be missing the start of the season.

PHT made a jab about how this will set Sam Bennett back even farther, due to the questions already surrounding his strength. After all, the formerly number-one North American prospect fell in the rankings at the draft combine this past year, when he was unable to do a single pull-up.

Sam Bennett proved that he’s more than capable of building up his strength, though. What he should be more concerned about is losing his momentum- as a player whose team was already likely to potentially rush him in his development, having this awkward and sudden halt in his new career could spell disaster for both the forward and his club. According to Flames’ head coach Bob Hartley, the skater refused to let on how hurt he was for a while- could be due to the amount of pressure he’s under, but there’s no question that it’s not good news for Calgary.
