Could be awkward when Chandler Parsons plays the Rockets

Even though the Dallas Mavericks’ preseason game against the Houston Rockets won’t matter in the standings, Chandler Parsons isn’t pretending it’s just another game. After leaving the Rockets on what could be explained as rocky terms, Parsons will face his former team in the Mavs’ preseason opener Tuesday night.

It’ll be a strange feeling, reports the Houston Chronicle’s Jonathan Feigan.

"“It’s going to be a weird feeling,” Parsons said. “It’s definitely going to be awkward.“Even though it’s a preseason game and Dirk (Nowitzki is) not playing and the rotation is not going to be regular-season game like, it will still be exciting. It will still be competitive. It’s not like it will be Nov. 22 in Houston, but it’s good to get it out of the way. It will be fun.”"

Parsons’ move from one Texas team to the other has added fuel to the Rockets-Mavericks rivalry. After all, when you get owners involved, it tends to have a trickle-down effect. Ever since Parsons went clubbing with Mavs owner Mark Cuban, this whole situation has been rather weird.

Houston lost Parsons, a restricted free agent, in large part because they were chasing a third all-star to add to the James Harden-Dwight Howard duo. After missing out on Chris Bosh and Carmelo Anthony, the Rockets were too late to sign Parsons–who signed an offer sheet with the Mavs. Houston replaced him with Trevor Ariza.
