It seems that the team doesn’t overlook the value of having veteran experience leading the team, though. On Monday, they announced the team’s two alternate captains- and they both bring as much wisdom to the table as they do locker room leadership.
The two alternate captains will be centerman Vernon Fiddler, 34, and defenseman Trevor Daley, 31. Both are extremely excited for the opportunity.
Fiddler is a relatively new name for the Dallas Stars- he came to the Texas team only three seasons ago. He had spent the previous two years with the Phoenix Coyotes, and the remainder of his career with the Nashville Predators. He’s plenty loyal to the Dallas Stars, though, as he specifically chose to re-sign with the team this July upon hitting free agency.
Daley, though, has been with the team from the start. He’s the Shane Doan of the Dallas Stars, as he’s the longest tenured member of the current franchise. He’s been in Dallas for the past 11 seasons and sees no reason to change that any time soon.
Dallas Stars’ general manager Lindy Ruff vocalized his faith in the three team leaders, but emphasized the need for the three to hold each other accountable. Should be a perfect blend for an already-powerful team; the Dallas Stars are going to be a force to be reckoned with this season.
