Houston Rockets guard James Harden used to play with Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant. That connection is something the team is hoping lands them the MVP in 2016.

Kevin Durant is the MVP of the league and his pending free agency in 2016 is a huge deal to a lot of people. That right there highlights how desired Durant is, as no one can touch him until the summer of 2016 — which is two years away — yet, his free agency status is a hot topic in the NBA.

According to Marc Stein from ESPN.com, the Houston Rockets are hoping that James Harden will be their lead recruiter in the summer of 2016 when it comes time to pursue a deal with Kevin Durant.

"Sources say the Rockets would like to give James Harden an opportunity to serve as their lead recruiter in pursuing Durant."

In all of the talk about Brooklyn, New York and Washington when it comes to recruiting Durant, this is one of those it makes so much sense why didn’t I think of that situations. Durant and Harden hardly had a falling out when the latter was traded to the Houston Rockets in 2012-13, and a reunion isn’t out of the questions.

It’s worth mentioning though that the Rockets had an abysmal offseason in which they traded away Jeremy Lin to make way for Chris Bosh who ultimately re-signed in Miami. This came after letting Chandler Parsons walk to Dallas and failing to lure in Carmelo Anthony despite rolling out Dwight Howard and Harden.

So recruiting Durant is a lot easier said than done.

It’s not an impossible task though, but it’s something that really isn’t relevant for another year. A lot can happen between now and then, including Houston losing Harden, Oklahoma City winning a title or Kevin Durant signing an extension before 2016 rolls around.
