The deal Kenneth Faried signed with the Denver Nuggets could influence what kind of deal Klay Thompson gets from the Golden State Warriors

Players from the draft class of 2011 have until October 31 to reach an extension or they will become restricted free agents in 2015.

More from Dallas Mavericks

A few players have already reached extensions. The Cleveland Cavaliers re-signed point guard Kyrie Irving to a five-year max deal almost as soon as they good while the Denver Nuggets just agreed to terms on a deal with power forward Kenneth Faried. The next player who is in line for a big extension is probably Golden State Warriors’ guard Klay Thompson.

Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders believes Faried’s new deal will influence the Warriors and Klay Thompson.

"Thompson and the Warriors have been talking extension for most of the summer and it seems that a deal between both sides is likely. The terms on a potential pact are not clear yet, though.A likely deal should come in close to where Faried landed, four-five years at $12 million plus per season."

Klay Thompson was said to be seeking max money so a five-year deal worth $60 million may not even get it done (although it probably should). If Klay Thompson wants a max deal, he’s going to have to hit free agency. Of course, he can only sign a five-year deal with the Warriors.

Thompson averaged 18.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 44.4% from the field, 41.7% from beyond the arc and 79.5% from the foul line. In his career, Thompson has gone for 16.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 43.5% from the floor, 41.0% from three and 82.7% from the charity stripe.
