Teddy Bridgewater is fine, says Mike Zimmer

The Minnesota Vikings have been unable to figure things out after showing early promise this season, but they will likely be welcoming rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater back in Week 6 against the Detroit Lions. Bridgewater missed the Vikings’ game against the Green Bay Packers last Thursday due to a sprained ankle, but appears to be just fine for the game against the Lions. Head coach Mike Zimmer spoke to the media, and made it clear that Bridgewater is “fine” for Week 6.

More from Minnesota Vikings

Bridgewater has shown quite a bit of potential through his first couple games in the NFL, and has impressed the Vikings’ coaching staff. He has thrown for 467  yards so far this season, but has yet to throw a touchdown or an interception. Detroit doesn’t have the best secondary, but they do have a great pass rush due to their strong front line.

Needless to say, hearing Zimmer confirm that Bridgewater is fine is great news for the Vikings and their fans. Christian Ponder once again showed why he shouldn’t be an NFL quarterback against the Packers, and hopefully no one will ever have to see that type of performance again in Minnesota. Bridgewater may still be a rookie that makes some mistakes, but he has much more potential than anyone else on the roster.

It will be intriguing to see what happens throughout the rest of the regular season with Bridgewater leading the way. Minnesota likely won’t come back and make the playoffs, but they won’t be a pushover team as much as they have been either. The future at quarterback has arrived for the Vikings, and the fans are going to get a good look at their potential franchise quarterback over for the rest of the season assuming he can stay healthy.
