We have just completed what was arguably the most crazy weekend of college football ever. Not only did a handful of ranked teams lose, but the top ten saw a complete shuffling on its own. Most notably when it comes to the Heisman race, Marcus Mariota and the Oregon Ducks fell on Thursday night. The Heisman Pundit Straw Poll is here to help sort it out.

As we have done each week, we need to check in with the Heisman Pundit to see where the latest Straw Poll has the top Heisman candidates. With so much fluidity through this last week, a shakeup was to be expected.

Check out how the Pundit sees the Heisman race as it currently stands:

The HeismanPundit.com Heisman Straw Poll, 10/7/2014

Total Points (with first place votes in parentheses)

1. Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia — 23 (5)

2. Dak Prescott, QB, Mississippi State — 18 (4)

3. Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon — 11 (1)

4. Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin — 6

5. (tie) Nick Marshall, QB, Auburn — 1

Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama — 1

Obviously Mariota is the biggest faller after losing to an unranked Arizona team. With Arizona jumping from unranked to #10 in the polls, the loss doesn’t look so bad. Mariota was playing behind a severely depleted offensive line, and still looked to be super human in his own right.

With another strong game, Gurley jumps to first in the Heisman race and he is followed by Dak Prescott. As Mississippi State knocked off Alabama, it was Prescott who led the way.

Melvin Gordon sits at fourth in the poll despite a loss to Northwestern. He is going to likely see his Badgers drop a few more games this year as the have absolutely no quarterback play with both Stave and McEvoy looking lost at the position.

Much like the polls, expect the Heisman race to continue to shake up as the season rolls on.
