While Jordin Tootoo might be happy with his Devils contract, Scott Gomez might not be as thrilled.

The New Jersey Devils, it seems, want it all.

Today, the announced that the two remaining veterans invited to their training camp have been informed of their fates.

One veteran, 31-year-old Jordin Tootoo, is looking at a clear future. He was signed by the metropolitan division franchise and is excited to be back on the ice after being bought out of the final two years of his last contract. He should be headed into a fourth line forward role with the team and anticipates the role being met with substantial success.

The other vet, though, is probably slightly less satisfied with what the team has offered him.

It seems that Scott Gomez, 34-year-old former Devil, has been asked to accept a ‘taxi squad’ assignment for the team; in other words, to stick around until the team has room for him.

The ‘don’t go anywhere, because we could need you if no one else works out’ plea given to Gomez comes as little surprise to New Jersey fans, though. While Jordin Tootoo never had any delusions of being more than a bottom-six contributor for his franchise, Gomez was bought out of a significantly larger, more scandalous contract- the Montreal Canadiens bought the center out of the final three years of his seven-year, $51 million dollar contract when he was no longer able to put up the kind of numbers that his then seven-million dollar salary demanded. Gomez may have had a stellar pre-season in Jersey, but no one is confident that he can consistently put up good numbers anymore.
