Norris Cole started at point guard for the Miami Heat.
This may not be an indication of what direction Erik Spoesltra is headed in regards to the starting point guard position for his Miami Heat, but it’s as good an indicator available to confirm the training camp battle brewing at point guard: entering their second preseason game, the Heat go with Norris Cole as their starting point guard.
Norris Cole to start at point tonight, not Chalmers. Other starters: Bosh, Shawne Williams, Dwyane Wade and Luol Deng.

Over the past few years, Chalmers has proven to be the superior player between he and Norris Cole, but with a new “era” in Miami as LeBron James leaving to Cleveland forced a lot to change.
It really comes down to who Spoelstra feels more comfortable with leading the team — that’s an area Mario Chalmers has a leg up in as he’s started on this team for the last few years, though the non-PG system from the past may make things easier for Norris Cole to slide into the position.
With Chris Bosh and Josh McRoberts likely to start alongside Dwyane Wade and Luol Deng, it makes the need for the starting point guard to be a reliable three-point shooter, a factor that greatly plays into the favor of Norris Cole. Add that with him being the best defender at point guard and we could be seeing Norris Cole as the primary guard for the first time in his four-year career.
