"Phoenix Suns center Alex Len is sidelined with a fracture of the right hand fifth finger (pinky). He will be re-evaluated next Wednesday, Oct. 15."
Considering the Suns lack depth at the center position, this is a huge blow to the Suns as well as a huge blow to the progression of Alex Lens’s young career.

Of all players selected in the top-10 of the 2013 NBA Draft, the least may be known about Alex Len. Because of injury, Alex Len only appeared in 42 games last season. In those games, Alex Len averaged 2.0 points and 2.4 rebounds per game on 8.6 minutes of playing time while Miles Plumlee earned the bulk of the minutes.
Because of glimpses, many assume Alex Len has the ceiling of an above-average rim protector, but if he can’t stay healthy, he has little to no value to both the Suns or any NBA team who’d want his services. Fortunately for Alex Len, he’s only 21 years old. Because big men peak later than most wings, his window of opportunity will remain open until his near 30s unless something colossal happens.
But until then, the former lottery pick will still be seen as a project player, a sign that isn’t comforting for the Suns as they hope to break into the top-8 of the Western Conference finals and make the playoffs.
