Rex Ryan and the New York Jets are having a disastrous start to the 2014 NFL season, losing four of their five games so far.

Ryan admitted Tuesday that if the season continues down this path, he will be without a job at season’s end.

Unfortunately for Ryan, there’s nothing to suggest a Jets turnaround is around the corner. Quarterback Geno Smith doesn’t look any better than he did a season ago and the team lacks playmakers on both sides of the ball.

Furthermore, the New York Daily News reported Monday that Ryan’s fate with the Jets has already been sealed.

"“Rex is done. It’s over. It’s dysfunctional the way the Jets did it by retaining the head coach after hiring a new general manager,” one NFL source said Monday. “It’s not going to work. In their situation, Idzik was not the right guy for Rex, who needs to win now. Idzik is going to be patient. Unfortunately, that was Rex’s demise. As much as Rex enjoys being the head coach of the Jets, he needs a change of scenery. He’s more mature now as a head coach. I like him better now than I’ve ever liked him.”"

For all the controversy that’s surrounded it, Ryan’s tenure with the Jets has actually been fairly success. The defensive guru led the Jets to the AFC Championship game in back-to-back seasons in 2009 and 2010.

However, a tumultuous past few seasons will have Ryan on the coaching market shortly.
