The San Diego Chargers have been decimated by injuries and running back and have signed a former Charger, veteran Ronnie Brown, to provide depth.

Although the San Diego Chargers have gotten to a great start, they have had plenty of problems at running back.

Ryan Mathews has a sprained MCL that has kept him out for three weeks and reports indicate he could be out for another two weeks. Veteran Donald Brown suffered a concussion in the San Diego Chargers’ 31-0 victory over the New York Jets Sunday. Branden Oliver filled in extremely well on Sunday. Oliver rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries and had four receptions for 60 yards and another touchdown.

To provide depth, the San Diego Chargers re-signed one of their former running backs, veteran Ronnie Brown.

They also re-signed safety Adrian Phillips to the practice squad, placed center Doug Legursky on injured reserve, released linebacker Kevin Reddick and put rookie running back D.J. Adams on “Practice Squad – Injured.”

Brown was selected by the Miami Dolphins with the second-overall pick of the first round in the 2005 NFL Draft. In his career, he’s rushed 5,332 yards 38 touchdowns while catching 242 passes for 1,927 yards and two more touchdowns. Ronnie Brown spent his first six seasons with the Miami Dolphins, then missed the entire 2011 season. He returned to the San Diego Chargers in 2012 and spent two seasons there. He rushed for 220 yards on 46 carries and caught 49 passes for 371 yards in 2012. In 2013, he rushed for 157 yards and a touchdown on 45 carries and caught eight passes for 60 yards. He was signed by the Houston Texans in the preseason but was released last week.
