ESPN College Football Challenge picks for week 7

For those of you that don’t know, ESPN College Football Challenge is the closest you can get to college fantasy football on ESPN.  You get to comprise a roster of two quarterbacks, two runnings backs, two wide receivers, a team kicker, and a team defense.  The scoring is very similar to NFL scoring.

Last week, I had a good week, though if you followed my advice and took Connor Halliday, you likely did as well. The only busts were Nelson Spruce and Donnel Pumprhey. Spruce I will take because of his sustained success up until that game. Pumphrey was just a bad call.

More from College Football Odds

This week will take some tweaking since Halliday is facing a tough Stanford defense, and I’m not sure how much I trust Mariota behind that line. Dak Prescott, Bryce Petty, and Kenny Hill also have tough matchups, so where do you turn? I can help.

Quarterbacks:

Shane Carden, East Carolina: I should have went with him last week against SMU. I’m not making that mistake again against a soft South Florida defense. Especially with a lot of the good QB’s having tough matchups.

Tyler Murphy, Boston College: Did you see what DeShaun Watson did to North Carolina State last weekend? Murphy could do the same.

Honorable mention: Kevin Ellison vs. Idaho, Cyler Miles vs. California.

Running Backs:

Melvin Gordon, Wisconsin: He ran for 259 against Northwestern. I’m expecting 200+ again agianst an awful Illinois defense.

Anthone Taylor, Buffalo: Taylor shredded Bowling Green, and now gets an even worse Eastern Michigan defense. With big names like Gurley and Coleman having tougher matchups, Taylor should be a great replacement.

Honorable mention: Aaron Jones vs. Old Dominion, Jeremy Langford vs. Purdue

Wide Receivers:

Sterling Shepard, Oklahoma: Trevor Knight doesn’t often complete passes, but when he does, they are to Sterling Shepard.

Amari Cooper, Alabama: Are you willing to take the chance that he won’t go off against Arkansas? Me either…..

Honorable mention: Kevin White vs. Texas Tech, Rashard Higgins vs. Nevada.

Kickers:

I usually look for games that could have a lot of field goals. For that reason, I like LSU, Baylor, and Oklahoma this week.

Defense:

Temple: The Owls have been tough, and Tulsa has had issues even getting across midfield, let alone into the end zone.

Honorable mention: Michigan State vs. Purdue, Notre Dame vs. North Carolina
