Martin Brodeur still wants to play and believes he can help a good team

Martin Brodeur is still without a job in the NHL. He spent all summer not-so-subtly suggesting he still wanted to play, but that elicited exactly zero interest from teams in the league. So for now Martin Brodeur is biding his time practicing with his son on a junior league hockey team in the hopes of catching someone’s eye or at least catching a phone call after an injury.

“The last two seasons have been hard,” Brodeur said per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet “We missed the playoffs both occasions, and…my playing time was kind of cut a little bit and not to my liking…I thought I was going to play a lot more and be more productive.”

Unfortunately at 42, Martin Brodeur is at the twilight of his career. He was outplayed by Corey Schneider in New Jersey and now Schneider is the long-term goalie in the only home Martin Brodeur has ever known. While Marty understands his position, he has his own reasons for continuing a quest to play another year in the NHL.

“If I’m 30 years old and this is happening to me…I would be really upset. But now, I’ve played enough, I’ve done everything I needed to do. What I’m trying to achieve right now is something a little selfish because I want to play the game. I love playing the game, I don’t care what I did in the past in my career…and I’d love to help a good hockey team to maybe challenge for the Stanley Cup.”
