This summer, the Cleveland Cavaliers made former Kansas Jayhawks’ swingman Andrew Wiggins the number one overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Although they seemed genuinely excited to have Andrew Wiggins on their team, once they convinced LeBron James to leave the Miami Heat in favor of a return to Cleveland, Andrew Wiggins’ departure seemed inevitable.
The Cavaliers eventually dealt Andrew Wiggins and the number one pick of the 2013 NBA Draft, forward Anthony Bennett, to the Minnesota Timberwolves for star power forward Kevin Love (The Cavaliers sent a first round pick to the Philadelphia 76ers. The 76ers dealt forward Thaddues Young to the Timberwolves and also received forward Luc Richard Mbah a Moute and point guard Alexey Shved).
Although the ultimate preference would have to keep Love, the Timberwolves’ return has been widely praised.
On Tuesday, the new-look Timberwolves hit the floor for the first time against the Indiana Pacers and although the Pacers won 103-90, Andrew Wiggins stuffed the stat-sheet. He had 18 points on four-of-11 shooting from the floor and eight-of-10 shooting from the free throw line with four rebounds, three blocks, three assists and a steal.
