New York Knicks’ big man Amar’e Stoudemire had the worst season of his career last year and not many are expecting much from him this year.
However, Amar’e Stoudemire himself believes he is in for a big 2014-2015 campaign.
“Obviously to reach back to my dominant self, I feel like I’m there now,” Stoudemire said via Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN New York. “I feel like my body is feeling so much stronger [than last year at this time] so I feel dominant.”
Amar’e Stoudemire also believes he has plenty of good years in front of him.
“This is definitely not the last year for myself,” Stoudemire said. “I feel like the work I put in this offseason and the way I feel now is great motivation for me to continuing to play.”
“Well, there have been times where rehabbing and recovering from injuries has been very tough on the mind and the mental,” he added. “But I have been able to persevere. And the life that I get from playing well kind of motivates me to continue striving to continue to get better.”
Although some of what Amar’e Stoudemire said isn’t all that realistic, if he can stay healthy, that could go a long way towards getting the Knicks back in the playoffs.
He put up just 11.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while shooting 55.7% from the field and 73.9% from the free throw line. In his career, he has averaged 20.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 blocks in 33.0 minutes per game while shooting 53.5% from the field and 76.2% from the charity stripe.
