The NHL regular season will officially get underway on Wednesday night.
There are four games that will kick things off. Tilts between the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs (7:00 pm EST), Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers (7:30) and Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames (10:00) will all lead up to perhaps the most intriguing match up of the night. The defending champion Los Angeles Kings will play host to the San Jose Sharks.
This is a rematch of their first round playoff series last year. The Sharks built a 3-0 series lead only to see the Kings win the next four games, becoming just the fourth team to win a series after dropping the first three games. The Kings then went on to defeat the Anaheim Ducks and Chicago Blackhawks, both in seven games, before disposing of the New York Rangers in five to win the Stanley Cup.
The Kings will be looking to win their third cup in four years while the Sharks are attempting to finally get over the hump. The Kings bring almost their entire team back intact led by stars Anze Kopitar and Jonathan Quick. Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski will return to lead the Sharks (although the word lead should probably be used loosely since Thornton was stripped of his captaincy).
