It’s unlikely that we will see Carson Palmer in action during Week 6

Despite practicing, it doesn’t look like Carson Palmer will be resuming his position as starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals.

Since appearing in the Cardinals Week 1 victory over the San Diego Chargers, Palmer has been forced to sit with a right shoulder injury, with backup Drew Stanton taking his place. And in Palmer’s absence, the Cardinals have yet to miss a true beat, posting a record of 3-1, their lone loss coming at the hands of Peyton Manning. And at 3-1, the Cardinals currently stand tied atop the NFC West division with the 3-1 Seattle Seahawks.

While Stanton isn’t playing lights-out football (529 yards, 2 touchdowns, 75.4 quarterback rating), the Cardinals ability to stay afloat will likely have a hand in the Cardinals decision-making in regards to when he returns.

Compared to his status from a week ago, Palmer is in a much better situation health-wise. According to the therapist who has been working with Palmer during his absence, the veteran quarterback’s nerve in his right shoulder has ‘woken up’.

With that said, it’d be irresponsible for the Cardinals coaching staff to rush him back as they have their best chance to win in the playoffs with Palmer at quarterback. Jeopardizing his health, for the short- and long-term would be unfair.

In Week 6, the Cardinals take on the 1-4 Washington Redskins at home.
