San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick said the NFL has fined him $10,000 for wearing Beats by Dre headphones during a post-game press conference on Sunday, which the NFL said violated an exclusive agreement between the league and Bose.
Colin Kaepernick’s preferred choice of headphones, the traditionally pricey Beats by Dre, cost the San Francisco 49ers quarterback $10,000 on Thursday. Kaepernick said the NFL has fined him for wearing Beats by Dre headphones during a press conference after the 49ers’s 22-17 victory against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kaepernick was wearing pink headphones designed to support breast cancer awareness, but the NFL has an exclusive agreement with Bose for its headphones, and recently banned Beats by Dre headphones, and said its players cannot appear on camera wearing the popular headphones.
While Bose likely pays the NFL a lot of money to be affiliated with the league, this seems like laughable overkill, particularly given the more pressing legal issues involving some of the other players around the league, and an overall image of appearing insensitive to violence against women and children. But with this fine to Kaepernick, it’s clear the NFL is more than ready to take action and rectify a wrongdoing — as long as the ones affected are helping the NFL’s bottom line get fatter.
