Jeff Driskel has been named the Florida Gators’ starting quarterback by head coach Will Muschamp for Saturday’s key SEC game against the LSU Tigers.

Driskel was benched last Saturday in a road game against Tennessee after he was 11-f0r-23 with just 59 yards and threw three interceptions. True freshman quarterback Treon Harris came in for Driskel and led the Gators to their only points and a 10-9 victory. Harris led them on a touchdown drive on his first series, setting up a score by running back Matt Jones.

However, Harris was been suspended indefinitely by the University of Florida Monday. He is under investigation by the University of Florida police department after being accused of sexually assaulting a fellow student early on Sunday morning.

Muschamp told reporters that he did not make the decision to start Driskel until after he learned of the Harris situation.

“Jeff will start the game,” Muschamp said. “We had not made a decision off the last game, who would start the game. Jeff was going to play in the game, I do know that.”

Harris will not pay for the Gators Saturday in wake of the investigation after police were called to his dormitory for allegations of sexual assault. Harris is allowed to take online classes at this time, but not allowed to attend classes.

The Florida Gators are 3-1 so far this season, with their sole loss coming to Alabama. However, their problems at the quarterback position have been colossal. We’ll have to see if Driskel can keep his job, or if true freshman Will Grier or sophomore Skyler Mornhinweg will take his spot during the game this week against a tough LSU Tigers team.
