Florida State Seminoles (1) vs Syracuse Orange

Although Jameis Winston and the top-ranked Florida State Seminoles haven’t exactly been impressive, they simply keep winning and will put their 5-0 record on the line when they travel to Syracuse to take on the 2-3 Orange on Saturday afternoon. The Seminoles are coming off of a 43-3 win over the lowly Wake Forest Demon Deacons while the Orange were not only defeated by the Louisville Cardinals 28-6 on Friday but they also lost quarterback Terrel Hunt to a fractured fibula.

Keys to Victory

For Syracuse, there is such a difference in the talent-level, they would need everything to go their way to get a victory. They’d have to have great fumble luck, force several turnovers and have new starting quarterback Austin Wilson play out of his mind. Even then, pulling off the upset would be tough.

Of course, there are a few things going for Syracuse. Florida State could be without their leading rusher, Karlos Williams (ankle) and one of the best players in school history, wide receiver Rashad Greene (concussion). Florida State is optimistic Greene can go. Mario Pender and Dalvin Cook will fill in for Williams while Florida State may lean on a couple of 5-Star freshman, Travis Rudolph and Ermon Lane, to replace Greene. Center Austin Barron has a broken arm so redshirt Ryan Hoefield is expected to start at center. Obviously, Syracuse has to take advantage of those injuries.

Syracuse’s big problems have been on offense. In fact, it’s gotten so bad offensive coordinator George McDonald had been demoted and replaced by quarterbacks coach Tim Lester. Although the Florida State defense has struggled at times, they are very talented. It’s tough to see a poor Syracuse offense without their quarterback get much of anything going on Saturday.

Betting Odds

Point Spread: Florida State -24.5

Prediction

Both teams are banged up but the Seminoles have the much more talented team and should be able to completely shut down a very poor Syracuse offense.
