At this point, Money has not yet announced his plans for 2015, but the time is fast approaching. Speaking to fighthype.com Floyd Mayweather Sr. said, “It’s gonna happen. That fight’s gonna happen. Trust me. That fight’s definitely gonna happen. It’s a fight for the world, man, right there. It’s the biggest fight that has ever been in life, so like I said man, that fight’s gonna happen.”
At this point, Mayweather Sr. hasn’t confirmed gaining the information from his son. However, with Money stating he would retire after completing the last two fights on his Showtime deal, all signs are pointing to the mega fight with Pacquiao.
Mayweather Sr. said, “Tell you right now, he never told me the fight’s gonna happen, but … the fight’s gonna happen. You mark my words and we’ll see.”
Manny Pacquiao is set to fight Chris Algieri on November 22 in China, but both Pac Man and Money are looking to May as a time that the mega fight could take place.
Sugar Ray Leonard told Fox 11 Los Angeles that he wants to see that fight in saying, “They should fight. … That fight would be huge. I think fans are starving for excitement. Fans are starving for competition, evenly matched fights. But it would be huge.”
I wouldn’t consider myself anything close to a boxing fan, but I have casually followed Pacquiao for much of his career and would without a doubt be all in for seeing this fight happen. Boxing has fallen by the wayside of late and this sort of mega fight could breathe life back into the sport.
Also, win or lose, what a way for Money to go out of the sport. Keep an eye on Mayweather and Pacquiao announcing something for May 2015.
