Jared Allen: My sacks will ‘absolutely’ come

Chicago Bears’ defensive end Jared Allen believes his sacks will “absolutely” come
The Chicago Bears signed veteran pass rusher Jared Allen this past offseason in hope that he could help take their defense to the next level as far as getting to the quarterback is concerned. At the age 32, he was coming off of a 11.5 sack season with the division rival Minnesota Vikings and still appeared to have some game left in him. So far this year, he has struggled through some health issues and hasn’t even recorded a sack for the Bears.

Jared Allen talked to the Chicago Sun-Times about what he expects for the rest of the seasoncand made it very clear that he expects his sack numbers to come.
“Goodness, I led the team in tackles [against the Panthers]. I was laughing with somebody and said, ‘Well, that whole thing about me not playing the run anymore has got to be out the window.’ I think I have a season-high tackle total already. If I was playing bad ball, I would let you know. Coming off that Jets game, obviously, I didn’t want to catch pneumonia. I felt I was in a good rhythm coming off that game, and last week, I just could have used some of the weight back on a couple of things.
“Do I want all the sacks? Absolutely. Will they come? Absolutely. My technique in my rush is good. I don’t really have a lot of false movements, and you’ve just got to keep working. They’ll come.”
Hearing those type of comments from Jared Allen are an encouraging sign, but he will still need to back them up with his production on the field. The Bears’ defense hasn’t been all that good this season, but they certainly have the potential to turn things around. That would all start with Allen getting back on track getting to the quarterback.
Throughout his 10-year NFL career before he joined the Bears, Jared Allen racked up 128.5 sacks, 30 forced fumbles and 572 total tackles. Needless to say, those numbers are impressive, and he can have a big impact on the game when he’s playing at full health and to his potential. It’s possible that his age has caught up with him and he is beginning to slow down, but it is also possible that Jared Allen is right and he finds a way to begin coming through for the Bears soon.
Allen is obviously motivated to turn his season around so over the next few weeks, it should be interesting to keep an eye on his stats.
