Jon Gruden has been a subject of all current and potential head coaching vacancies in the NFL since he left the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2008 decided to stop coaching and pursue being an analyst. Well now it seems there may be a chance for him to be a college football head coach with the University of Michigan, if he still wants to coach there 30 years later, that is.

University of Dayton athletics communication intern Dan Whitaker found this piece of gold on Wednesday:

In the Dayton football media guide from 1984, when Jon Gruden was quarterback, it says, “After graduation, he would like to become the head coach of the University of Michigan.”

GASP!

Michigan fans unite, because we are jumping off of the Jim/John Harbaugh bandwagon and guilting Jon Gruden to be the next head coach of the University of Michigan, something he’s been dreaming of since 1984.

In reality, there’s no way that Michigan gets Jon Gruden, but let a kid dream. Jon Gruden would be the dream, home-run scenario for the Wolverines who are struggling with a 2-4 record this season with head coach Brady Hoke clearly on his way out.

Michigan fans will continue to believe that Jon Gruden will be their next coach, until athletic director Dave Brandon has to play the sympathetic mom card and say, “That’s just not happening, honey.” Michigan missed Jon Gruden by just 30 years, but maybe the 51-year-old ESPN Monday Night Football analyst still has dreams to coach in college football, where’s he was never a head coach. Michigan would be the place to do, but I don’t want to give my own hopes up.
