Kyrie Irving may have to wait until the regular season to take on the Miami Heat with his new-look Cavaliers team.

When Brian Windhorst revealed Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving was wearing a walking boot, many expected the worst. Soon, both the team and Irving refuted any thoughts of a bad injury being the case.

Even then, the Cavaliers aren’t straying away from precaution as Irving is expected to miss the upcoming preseason game versus the Miami Heat.

From Fox Sports:

"Cavs point guard Kyrie Irving is expected to miss Saturday’s game after injuring his right ankle in practice Tuesday. Irving wore a walking boot for part of the day Wednesday and did not practice Thursday. Both Irving and the Cavs have said the injury is not serious, and X-rays and an MRI were negative."

No matter how serious Irving’s injury is, him being hurt alone should keep him out of any — and possibly all — preseason games. Considering the team build, it’s imperative that Kyrie Irving healthy. Not only would it be difficult for the Cavaliers to replicate Irving’s on the court presence, but any time missed on the court is time missed as he and newcomers LeBron James, Shawn Marion, Kevin Love, and Mike Miller look to gain chemistry as they prepare to compete for a NBA championships in 2015.

In the Cavaliers preseason opener vs. Maccabi Tel Aviv, Irving scored 16 points and dished 5 assists in 25 minutes of play.
