Klay Thompson may not be willing to take a discount
Earlier today, it was reported that the Golden State Warriors and shooting guard Klay Thompson were millions apart in regards to agreeing on an extension.
Now it looks like Klay Thompson has no intentions of taking less on a deal, as reported by Marcus Thompson of the Bay Area News Group.
While the Warriors may not fancy this decision by Klay if true, he’s making the right decision.

Just this past off-season, we saw two players of Klay’s talent level receive max contract offers: Gordon Hayward from the Charlotte Hornets and Chandler Parsons from the Dallas Mavericks.
That alone is reason enough not to compromise with the Warriors.
Like those two players, if Klay hits the open market as a restricted free agent, there’s going to be a team or two (or many) out there that’d gladly offer him a max contract, especially with the shooting guard position lacking big talent.
It’s kind of odd seeing the Warriors hold their stance in this instance. Just three months ago, Klay was too good to trade for Kevin Love. And by any standards, logic, or database of numbers you can find, if you’re too good to trade for a power forward many assume to be the best in the NBA, you’re surely good enough to be offered a max contract.
With time running out (the extensions deadline is on October 31), we’ll see if the Warriors cave in. If not, that max they refuse to agree to will surely be a reality come the summer of 2015.
